If you have what kind of milage was on it? I'm rebuilding an engine and I am considering replacing them but just not sure if I should spend the cash on them..... Its a now or later deal I guess.
Also have you had to replace any sensors?

Oil pump wouldnt be a bad idea since you are in there already. Water pump is an easy job you can do anytime without removing anything except the belt

Whenever I build an engine I always replace the oil pump. The part isn't that expencive and it is not worth the few extra bucks you save and then have rod and main bearings spin. Water pump isn't as big adeal cause its easier to change and it wont destroy the engine if it fails. But you do not want to risk the new bearings on an old pump.

That is of course you enjoy building your engine over and over

That is pretty much what I was thinking but I also want to see how well they are holding up for other people. I have read about very few failures with these two items.

They don't fail often but why risk it on a rebuilt engine?

of course. I'm sure mine is full of bearing dust and metal particles. Just wondering how many have had to replace theirs. I've heard of very few failures between the oil and water pump. They don't make them like they use to. Thank God Fyi the oil pump is mounted to the front of the engine. I am putting a oil pressure gauge in before I restart the new engine.

Yea the oil pumps are made to go for a lot of miles these days. Water pumps not so much but i cant say ive done many on 4.6s. Gm and dodge vehicles are another story. The worst of all are the gm 4 cylindrr cars. You want to replace oil pump any time there is any bearing damage, low oil pressure, ect. Its not like the old days you could pull an oil pan with the motor still in the car and replace it. Make sure you pull the fuel pump relay before stafting the motor and turning it over so you can prime the motor
