Hey, I've got a question for my research on the new (well, new to me at least) Stang. The question is: what is the average MPG you guys are getting? The reason I'm asking is because of the high *cough*rip-off*cough* gas prices and high insurance. I'm debating on keeping my car as a daily driver and picking up a classic one (lower insurance, gas doesnt really matter, dont have to worry about a 1st ding- no prolonged parking outside of shows) or a later model (better gas milage, not AS devestated for a ding, can bring to much more places without fearing it being stolen, can not worry so much about picking up some1 elses nightmare car, more reliable). So, lets see those numbers!

I'm in the exact same boat as you.

Try Edmunds, Consumer Reports, or Cars.com ....I was looking at getting an 04 Stang, but opted get a daily driver, and make a Stang my weekend warrior. I still haven't decided which year to get, but I'm leaning 94-95.

I thought the 99+ was around 18 city 25 highway, but those are Ford's #s some people got better and worse.

***EDIT**** Those are for the GT....of course.

I have always got 21-27 mpg in my 03 GT

21 equals some 'spirited' driving
27 equals 55 mph

I'm usually around 22 or 23, which is a mix between
highway and around town driving.

high was 30mpg on road trips, of course that was probably
100,000 miles ago before any mods, but I've hit 28 in the
recent past.

low was 16 or 17 when I was in college, city driving only back
and forth to campus, the store etc.

Oh yeah, the car is a '94 Gt with 150,000+ miles on the clock.

I just bought my first pony....Black 96GT with 248A option package. It's a 5 speed with 108k miles on it and runs great. I got nearly 21 mpg with the first tank (driving rather spiritedly).

We get better MPG on our '99 GT vs our "daily driver" an '03 Honda Element. Because of the 4-cyl, we (mostly I) end up accelerating longer and harder then we normally do in the 8-cyl. So keep that in mind when picking a "daily driver".

in downtown (where I live) driving, probably about 15 to 16.

"City" driving (where its not stoplight to stoplight, some actual periods of cruising) about 18 or so.

Highway, 20 to 21.

I don't drive all that aggresively, but not like a grandma either. Its an auto 2001 GT. I run 80 on the interstate.

96 Cobra w/ 9# Vortec S/C boost, BBK T.B., & 3:73 gears...

"nice" driving I average 17.2

I always use chevron though so my gas bills are high. My husband has a Prelude so he does the driving when it's not just for fun (except when I drive to work/errands).

I'd like to get a new car and keep the Cobra for weekends to get better gas milage. Finances won't allow it now, but that will be my solution.

The way I look at it, gas prices will probably only continue to go up every year, so enjoy your gas guzzler while you can!

My 95 GT vert with AODE gets around 17 in town and up to 24 on the freeway depending upon speed. All on 87 octane. I can live with that especially considering the car's performance and fun factor.

have a 04GT w/ 5spd we usually get around 20-21 but wife only works 5 mins from home so its all stop and go. went to NY for the winter. did about 80 the whole way from richmond va and averaged 27. prob could get higher but i hate driving the speed limit. my 92 we wont talk about around town. all highway get around 20. if you are looking for better gas mileage i would go with a 96-04. the 4.6 get better gas mileage
