Double sided tape removal

I recently traded my 05 GT for an 03 GT. The 03 came with 'splash guards' above the doors. The splash guards are attatched with some kind of double sided tape.

What kind of product do I need to use in order to remove the double sided tape, without hurting the paint?

Thanks in advance!

get a hair dryer and use it to heat soften the tape.. then it should pull right off. Use a plastic scraper or something (LIGHTLY!) to get under the tape and pry it up.

After you are done removing as much of the sticky, get some 3m adhesive remover in the aerosol can. You can spray it on and use rags to wipe off the rest. Afterwards wash completely and wax the car (or at least the area the 3m spray was used ).

Goo gone?

I hate to ask, but what about 'goo gone'? If applied with alot of water and in conjunction with the hair dryer process you mentioned, do you think that would be safe? the tape comes of all by itself, but it leaves a nasty residue behined. Thanks scothew!!

(I'm definetly gonna wash/wax entire car afterwards)

Never used goo gone, but the 3m stuff is what I used to remove the sticky on my wife's 01 v6 stang that had those door guards. After the guards and tape were off.. 3m took the sticky right off.

WD-40 and Goo Gone will work on taking the adhesive off. Use a plastic scraper.

I hope this helps.

We use what is called a stripe eraser....it's a round rubber disc that goes in a drill and acts like a pencil eraser....works great and usually only found in body shop supply stores. However, if you run the drill too fast you can burn the paint so if you are not confident don't try it ....but it is easy to use and much faster than any other method and will not scratch the paint.
