i have a code alarm security system with remote start and was wondering if i should get a Viper alarm and remote start system because the trunk release doesnt work remotely anymore. should i just go somewhere to have that looed at? and if so where do you take cars with code alarm?

I would stay away from the Viper systems. My wife has one on her Element and it is flukey. We have had the car start all by itself more than a dozen times. Also, once the alarm is out of the one year warranty Viper is not very cooperative with helping solve problems. I would suggest looking at a Clifford or another brand. Do some research and see what you come up with.
First perhaps you should take your car to a local Ford dealer or even a local car audio/alarm shop and see what they can do. It could be a relatively cheap and quick fix that you may not be able to detect.

my friend has a viper remote start w/o the alarm and it works good for him. and it has a pretty good range and where they got it installed at they it came with a lifetime warranty through viper and if you switch cars they will take it out and put it in your new car for free with the warranty still in place.

I like my viper alarm. One feature I really like is my key chain will beep when my alarm is going off outside. Great for being in the mall or shop when I can't hear the alarm. Plus they will pay my deductable if my car is ever stolen.

i dunno if cliffords are any better than vipers now that DEI owns them.
will the trunk still pop if you use the button in the glove box?
have you tried changing the remote?

yeah it works using the glove box button, and ive tried both remotes. everything else seems to work with the remotes though.

Hmmm... Must just be my luck. DEI didn't want to help me at all when the wife's alarm was on the fritz. I fiddled with it myself and fixed it. We don't have the option to transfer it to another car either. We had it installed at Best Buy and were thinking about an Explorer a few months back and were told we would have to pay the installation fee. Its a weird system. Sometimes it works really well and we can start it from inside a resteraunt and sometimes it won't even work 50 -75 feet away. And yes I have changed the batteries in the remotes LOL
