Clutch plan for turbo
Clutch plan for turbo
So I'm in process of a turbo build on my 95 cobra and all I need is a meth kit and the build will start....now my question is I still have the stock clutch in but it grips right away, never slips. I have full bolt ons with an SCT chip/bama custom tune...long story short I always hear why replace something if it ain't broken....so should I keep the stock clutch for build until it burns out or just upgrade now....opinions please?
I would upgrade it. You might be able to get by for a while, but one good launch and you'll be getting a tow home. Don't fix it if it ain't broke, but also make sure all your components can handle your mods. The stock clutch isn't going to last long with a turbo setup.
You will need a clutch. its not all about starting grip. you need grip once clutch is engaged too. As soon as you get into boost most likly you will over power your clutch and it will slip.
Ok fair enough. I already have a brand new ram HDX in the box that I plan on using. But for the break in of the new clutch would it be bad to get dyno tune on a fresh clutch? I just figure it'd be easier and save a bit of time to do clutch and do the turbo at the same time and just go real easy on the clutch for the next 500miles or however long it takes...

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions or need some assistance!

Sounds good. Also is there a hp/trq limit for flywheels? I plan on just resurfacing my stocker and throwing it back in and I've heard there is nothing wrong with that and even seen people suggest it in other feeds
Honestly I wouldn't take chances on resurfacing the flywheel. I say if you are going to do turbo and new clutch than do it right. Get a new flywheel with the clutch. No chance of bad surfacing or unevenness ruining the clutch break in.
