I'll get rid of the confusion ...the x pipe provides more power than the H. The x pipe balances out the torque curve while the H pipe is more for sound dynamics. When the exhaust gases pass the opening in the X this creates a low pressure area thus improving scavenging it does however have a lower tone than the h-pipe. The 90* turn the exhuast gases make for the cross over in the H pipe are more designed for sound vs performance.
one of the best X pipes out there are the Dr.Gas X pipe and Kooks. I don't like BBk anything but that is just me.

if youre looking for good sound, i have a friend with a 2000 GT with straight pipes after the cats, the thing is so loud but sounds killer.

Personally I like the sound of the x but its all in the owners opinion. Both sound good but as stated before the x has that lower tone and a little more rasp. I wouldn't go for a straight pipe with the cats still on. I know of one that way and it just doesn't sound that impressive. Cats quiet it down tremendously. Cut em off run you a o/r x pipe with flows an it'll sound so good you'll have to roll the Windows down to make room for your erection
