Calling the Cobra guys.

Calling the Cobra guys.
Have any of you taken out your IRS in a Cobra and put in a live axle from a GT or a Mach 1? Just wondering what's involved in this. I help a buddy of mine tinker with his IRS yesterday for about 10 hours. (we also welded a bracing and installed his new H-Pipe from Magnaflow. sounds amazing)
It's going to be a 2 day job. Take out the IRS and live axle, install live axle in the cobra, tinker around with it for about 4 hours, call it a day. Install the IRS in the GT, tinker around with it for a few hours, install the new exhaust, call it a day. Swap complete!
I want to do this eventually b/c when I buy a Cobra, it's going to be 1/2 drag car 1/2 DD. I'm not too concerned with ride quality. The 300lbs should help with the 1/4 mile time by about .1 of a second. Plus the IRS will help a lot with quality in the long run...
Any suggestions?

I plan on having 4 of us there to do it. 2 on each car. It should make the job go a lot smoother. Now to convince the wife that I need a cobra! She approved me getting a new car in 09, so now that I have a better job, and since the car will be 5 or 6 years old by that time, maybe I can get it sooner than expected... I'm hoping for 22-23k for a low milege Cobra in good shape, but that might be expecting a lot.
But hey, if the engine and tranny are in good condition, the body isn't that hard to repair.

I've been daydreaming about doing this swap in my Bullitt to get IRS. I probably don't need it as the car already feels great on windy mountain roads, but IRS I feel would allow me to make it more fun lol
ahh well, such is life. Can't have everything

Arin, just get a panhard bar setup and I promise you'll be happy.

Scott, I looked around online and that seems to be a very cost effective alternative. I just got a new job for the summer and I'll be making a good bit more than I was before, so I have a feeling I might actually go and do this.
Thanks

2 of the best, my other choice would be Kenny Brown, but I dont think they are back in production yet.

I did it in my 99 to a 96 gt solid axle with control arms, shocks and 3.55's to run slicks on the strip, ran a 13.3 on an unprepped track.....currently have an 03, will probably keep it to run autocross and I like the ride. very simple and straight forward. with 2 people I did the complete swap in 2 days with a clutch change and 4 new tires and brakes all around. my previous best time with the irs was a 14.0 on street tires on an unprepped track. ran with slicks at the same track for the other time.....no other performance mods were made to the vehicle between the runs. the exhaust changed from a flowmaster to SLP LM1's probably lost torque.

that is correct. he sold his patents to them. they run the same products, but from what I understand not all of the old KB products are manufactured anymore. btw, Paul is the coolest. I remember him from like 5 years ago when I had my old lincoln mark vii LSC, as a matter of fact, he kind of got me into modding it and thus started my 15,000 dollars worth of work on that car.....whew....memories. anyway, if you need any help or have any questions on it, feel free to pm me.

yeah arin i have a panhard bar on my 98, the rear will not come around unless i am just playing stupid. the rear sticks in turns, and i can actually feel it plant the rear in corners when i apply power. its a really nice feeling when you know the rear isnt going to become the front in a turn! : )

I have a lightly used IRS out of a Cobra parts car that I would sell. However, shipping would kill you.
