If you buy a used Mustang from someone (say a 2002-2004) that's a private party, is there anyway of going to a local dealer and asking them to give you ( you buy) the warrenty? Cuz I have found a few cars over on AT.com, but they are private sells, however, I would want a warrenty on a car, just to know that I am safe and covered!

aftermarket warranties from Ford can generally only be purchased before the original 36,000 miles are up...

there may be other companies that will do it, but it probably won't be that cheap...my extended warranty was $2k for $100 deductable and full car coverage

i had a bad experience with an aftermarket 3rd party warrenty. if something happens, they will find anyway possibly to screw you over and not have to pay. i.e. if you take the car to a dealer, and they find one thing thats been altered on the car, they'll void the entire warrenty and then your stuck with a hella bill.

Depending on the year and the mileage on the car, the original 3 year / 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty will transfer over to the new owner. So if you buy a new enough/low mileage enough car, you are already covered.

The 3rd party AUTO warranty is NOT the way to go. I happened to do work for one for awhile. The Home Warranties were fairly straight forward, and seemed to be a good deal. However, the auto warranties I heard them talk more then once about finding way not to cover things (albeit legally according to their contract) so it didn't cost as much. These were not managers, but rather call-center type employees. I don't know if that was company policy or not, but I did hear it more then once from lower-level employees.

Not to your company (or even the one I worked for) wouldn't cover you, but they're in the business to make money and I suppose even gray areas are perfectly legal to deny coverage (notice I didn't say it was right).

The original Ford warranty is your best bet, as is the Ford ESP warranty if they're under 36K miles. You could call your dealership and ask them as well. Perhaps they could run an Oasis to make sure the factory warranty hasn't been voided for some reason.

If you are not planning on customizing your car and just love it the way it comes from the factory (which I do), then the extended Ford warranty is not bad. I got one for mine and have a bumper to bumper coverage for 2 additional years for about $1,000, so 5 years 100,000 miles in total. That's almost worth it if you only use it once for a major item.

I totally agree. In fact for the modifications I plan to do, I may end up doing that myself, since it won't void anything.

The Ford Warranty is the only one I'd seriously consider. The good news (from the other thread) it looks like he'd at least have 9000K miles of warranty left on the 02, and 29K on the 03.

yeah, jeff...that's what I was looking at...either vehicle would still be considered under warrenty, can't beat that. I think I would just let that stay on there, if I get either one....and then do mods to the vehicle after I get to know it for those few months the warrenty is still left on!
