Does anyone know if the factory '96-'04 Cobra 4V valve covers are painted or powdercoated from Ford? Also does anyone have a paint code for this color? It's a silver metallic of some sort. I want to paint (or powdercoat) my factory '06 GT 3V valve covers in the same color if possible.

Thanks!

To be honest with you Randy, i'm really not sure.

I think they are painted with a high temp paint, but the specific color i have no idea. I dont think they are powdercoated.

Thanks for the feedback. I wonder if anyone at Ford would know, or if an outside vendor does all of the cam covers? It seems like this information is almost impossible to come up with. I saw a similar question for the paint color of the Eaton blowers on the '03/'04 Cobra and there was never a definitive answer on either paint or powder coat, or the color.

How about an easier one - where is Jimmy Hoffa?

That would be great - I'd love to hear what they have to say.

I have another fairly trivial question that only they would probably know as well. What kind of coating is used on those fancy SVT and newer Ford engine fasteners, and where can I get them? They look sort of gold colored. I think they look nice and would love to get some for my cam covers. My previous '98 Cobra had them as well. Here is an example as seen on the '03 Cobra engine:

Not being familiar with the '96-'04 Cobra 4v, I can't speak completely on the color itself. But one of my powder suppliers will match a color for a very small additional fee. All they need is an actual part/piece in the desired color. They will mix until they get it right.

Just a thought in case you don't have any luck anywhere else.

BTW....is this the cover and color you are talking about??

Yes, that's the color. The valve covers I want to have painted/coated are from a 3V GT. I was inspired by all the ones you have done for the '05/'06 GT members here. Do you know if Ford has the factory ones powdercoated, or are they painted? Will regular basecoat/clearcoat paint hold up to the heat cycles of the engine, or must high-temp paint be used?

I just bought a spare set of covers from Ford and I will start smoothing out all of the defects/casting marks shortly prior to painting/coating. I'm pretty picky when it comes to details I guess you could say. During this time I will continue to research to see if I can get some definitive answers on the paint code and proccess Ford uses, and then I'll be looking for someone to duplicate that. Thanks for the replies!
