5.0 swap!

I have a 99-04 mustang gt and would like to know what I would need/cost to do a 5.0 swap on my car. The engine will cost 8-10k. I have the 4 speed auto so I'm guessing ill need a new transmission as well?

Coyote 5.0. I don't have the money for the new 5.0 and my dad won't let me have a loan. I figured this would be a nice project since I have a second car to use while I work on it.

there's a thread on here somewhere about a new 5.0 being put in a bullitt

I can't seem to find it though, maybe someone else will have it bookmarked.

I know you have to have the motor and a transmission to match, you'll also have to move the computer and a few other things, and I'm pretty sure I remember he had to have custom headers made.

That seems like a lot of work. Might be better off just buying a used 05-09 GT, but thanks for your input I didn't know it would need that much work.

My car has high miles and I thought if I did my homework I could do a swap for less money than a new car.

Why not try drop a Cobra motor from 03-04 models?

How many miles you talking about? You'd be better of building up your 2v

yep, that's the one. There's not a ton of detail, but enough to tell you what the deal is.

I'm going to do it with my car, but just because it'll be a pretty unique thing, and I have no intention whatsoever of getting rid of my car.

In talking to the son of the person who had that done, there was enough work beyond just the parts (headers, power steering system, harness wiring) that I believe you would be looking at $15,000 when all is said and done.

The engine, computer, and transmission alone would like be $8000 + $1900 + $2000 of the cost, if I correctly recall some of the prices I've seen people pay for them.

Heres some mroe info on that Bullitt
http://www.stangtv.com/tech-stories/...-2001-bullitt/
http://www.mustang50magazine.com/fea...r/viewall.html

And you could use any transmission that has been mounted to a 4.6. The Coyote and 4.6 share belhousing patterns as well as motor mounts.

The one thing I forgot to consider... you have the AODE in your car, which is a computer controlled version of the older AOD. Since it has its shifts controlled by the computer, there might need to be some witchcraft still to do there.

I don't know if the trans is controlled by the main ECU or by some other computer in the car (if anyone who knows can share some insight, that'd be tight) but I imagine that is one more slight hurdle in your particular situation.

Might as well go manual swap at this point

Could always swap the tranny for a 6 speed.

Just find a wrecked 5.0, pay the junkyard to pull the guts from her and swap! Motor, driveshaft, tranny, exhaust, all the good bits

Unfortunately clearance maybe a issue so I wouldn't do that. Plus a cobra 6 speed is better.
