12's with N/A GT?
#1
I have a 2003 GT and I am wanting to run low to mid 12's, without slicks, going all motor. So far I have full exhaust (shorty headers, prochamber, catback), 3.73 gears, K&N airfilter, and a superchips microtuner. I would like to keep my spending for this under $3000. How well of a start do I have and what should I do next? Also is my goal reachable or have I aimed too far? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Going to be very hard to do it without sticky tires, but I think it can be done. You are going to have to run a very soft suspension that aims at weight transfer. Its going to be high 12's I believe, but you may have to go for ported heads, stage II cams in order to make enough power to propel you at that 12 barrier

you can also get accufab upper intake and 75 mm throttle body, and a cold air kit. but you'll need some drag radials to really have a chance. that might get you to the high 12's depending on the weather and such. the only other way to do it cheap is to cut weight from the car. lightweight seats, take everything from the trunk, skinnys up front. and some good adjustible shocks and struts will help
hey scott, you beat me. you could also up the gears to 410 or 430 if you desperatly have to run those times

Gears are definitly a must. I am inclined to say its going to require DR's as well, at least 275/40/17 nitto 555r's.
Also something else you will benefit from greatly will be a tune. Once you get all your mods done, get the car tuned by someone who knows whats going on and you will be much happier even if you dont run 12's :P

You need to go with a 4.10 gear, slicks, some kind of a locker for the rear end, better axles, uppers and lowers, q1a adj shocks in rear and adj struts in the front. I would say to go with the c*l elbow and accufab inlet. May wanna go ahead and put a good clutch in it also. Cause you need to leave on the limiter and be a shifting ****. btw use 26 inch slicks they will help you on the mudmota.

A 75 mm tb is a little too big, they're mostly used for forced induction cars. A 70 mm tb is used more for n/a cars and they make great power over stock. I would replace w/ a 70mm tb and the accufab plenum. Over on modular depot, they did a comparison between all the leading plenums and accufab came on top. Also if you want to make a little more power out of the exhaust, you could swap for long tube headers and a matching prochamber. Inevitably for 12's you will also have to stiffen the suspension and get some dr's as suggested by the others. It will definitely put a whole in your wallet but i'm sure in the end you won't regret it.

A lot of guys over there have done it, check it out!
You don't need slicks, but you do need good tires preferably DR's. A 75mm Accufab TB has been proven to give you more performance than the 70mm TB on the '99 - '04

Here is a great thread on modular depot written by Bill Putnam, one of the founding modular racers around, and extremely good guy in general.

Heads/intake/cams/and what is your rpm in 4th gear at the finish line of the dragstrip? You want it to be at redline, and I would prefer 4.56 gears. with a good aftermarket clutch.

456 will be way too much gear for a NA 2Valve w/ minor bolt ons. he'll prob be on the rev limiter at the 1000 ft mark and in 4th gear with those. if it was a 4 valve he could probably get away with them b/c they rev and breathe much better

He could run 4.56 gears with no problem if he uses a 28" slick. 4.30's and a 26" slick is great for a stock rev limiter 2v. 4.56's would work fine on a 4v motor.
