I bought a used 01 Cobra and decided to change the oil myself. I crawled under the car and didn't immediately see the drain plug, watched a how to video, went back to the car and the drain wasn't where it was in the video. Eventually I found what you see in the picture, but don't have a socket that would even fit that thing. First, is this the oil drain plug? Is this normal for this car? Is this a replacement plug? Would you remove the whole thing or does the round part screw out and the hex part remain? Before you ask... yes I've changed oil before.
Looks Like a No Spill System Plug. Looks Like a Tool is Needed to Use. May Need to Get New Stock Drain Plug if Threads are Not Messed up Or Get Drain Tool. Or Push in on Center For This Oil Change ? And Get Oiled! Could Just Remove Whole Item This Time Around!
Thanks, that helped. It says FRAM on it now that I took the cap off so I guess its their "SureDrain" system. It looks too scary to take the whole thing out (even if I had a socket big enough)... Also a little worried that if I just poke at the middle it might compromise the whole thing. Thanks again for getting me pointed in the right direction.

Did you Poke Around the Trunk Area & See if Maybe The Previous Owner Stashed it Somewhere? If it Was a Private Party Might Try & Contact them!
Looks Like the Kit is Obsolete But Here is One With Tool on Ebay Not Sure If Plug is Correct for Your Vehicle. I would Think the Tools are Interchangable???
Ha ha, yeah I poked all around the spare and all I found was 3 ballpoint pens. The locking lug nut "key" is in the golvebox but nothing for the oil plug. I appreciate the idea though. I did text the previous owner but so far only crickets. I would bet he wasn't changing his own oil.
