I took a 2002 V6 for a test drive today.Really liked the car and all but thought the V6 sounded a little strange to me.The best way i can describe the sound is that it sounded like a very powerfull vacuum cleaner. Not trying to knock the motor, but it had to much air kinda sound to me.I dont think its the specific car itself,as car had only 27,000 km (canadain) and seemed in really good condition.

So is it me,or does the V6 sound hollow with a air kinda sound?

That's the nature of the beast. It only sounds like an engine when you put your head next to the exhaust pipe - which is not recommended. But it can still chirp the tires!

Yeah, the V6 doesn't sound too great in stock form. I love the sound of my 4.0L V6 on my Ranger with duals, and that would be the perfect V6 sound from a Mustang to me. Very throaty, deep, and only loud when you rev it up.

I put a bolt-directly-on-to-the y pipe cat-back from Mac performance. I am very satisfied with the sound, and performance.

Another bonus is that, when the things inevitably rust (couldnt afford the Stainless steel), I could easily pop the OEM exhaust back on.

I (along with my father, who was there at the time, and who owned a 66 GT) we VERY suprised by the sound. It gets peoples attention. Sounds good when revved, a little too quiet when at idle. But for 350 bucks... its worth it.

Vacuum comparison does sound good, but I like to think of a baritone player that is just blowing not buzzing. It has a Hollow muscle sound.

Yeah...well the 04 sounds pretty decent stock. Very quiet, which I didn't like, so I am getting True Duals put on this Friday with 40's Flows.
