In regards to engine swaps, thing is there's a LOT to do to make any of those work. This (and really, the above as well) totally depends on what you intend the car to do. If this is for the drag strip or a road course and not going to hit the streets, then the sky's somewhat the limit and you can go crazy with it. If it's for the street... you really need to consider the ramifications in your state as to whether the things are even worth it to do in the first place, and if they're legal (unless you don't mind getting caught, of course.)
If it were me, the 3rd gen 5.0 is the one to get. Behind that if you can find a 4v 4.6, sure, if not then I'd get the 3v 4.6. Besides the timing chain, the 3v is a stout good engine, don't be afraid of it. Timing chains are relatively easy as it turns out, just need a couple of tools that regard alignment/staying put of the crank/cams/phasers. They get rattly, you swap 'em out, don't let them get horrible...like I did. :\ Even then I saved the engine, but it made the job 10x worse. Ah well.
Of course an LS swap, or any other make/model engine, is a doable thing. Kits are available for the LS stuff, but everything can be done with a dremel, welder, drill, hammer, paint and such. Even a 2JZ or a Kswap if that's what you wanted to do. There's a Camaro in Bradenton that has a 2JZ turbo in it and it does 8s. Crazy sounding car. There's also the K swapped Prius out in LA. Girl can't not mod a car, that Emelia...
Um anyway.... Back on topic... If you do the LS or such... you'll be asked to step out of the forums for your blasphemy.
I joke... or do I?
As far as what you'll need... too big a spread to really nail it down, but plan on suspension upgrades, driveline upgrades/swaps (trans, axle, driveshaft), and definitely a computer swap/tune for any of the above, as stock computing probably won't like your playing around with it.
At the end, however, I'd be looking to sell this car and get one that's got a v8 in it. The cost of playing this power game is going to be as expensive if not worse in some cases. It'd just be easier and better set up to have the car already in the right frame of power than to make this goofy jackshafted v6 do anything more.
BUT... you do you. We're just over here in our armchairs spittin' out information that maybe you don't like, maybe you do. But throw it all out and do what you want. It's your car, time, effort and money. Let us not dissuade nor encourage you to spend/waste it! Go make that Kswap Mustang!
First figure out what your goals are for the car you can throw bolt ons on it all day but if it doesn’t handle well and get the power to the ground or stop well enough your screwed. Honestly I’m work on my suspension and my brakes I have a few bolt ons and some transmission work. Put parts on that can work together
