Anybody had any problems after doing this? Any before hand tips?

I don't have much money but I just want to do some thing to my car. I almost bought an exhaust tip but figured I'd wait and get a full exhaust later. I just really want to do some thing . . . almost bought an air induction today too. haha Man I need some money for this poo!

As far as painting them, take them loose, get everything around the area covered and tapped (masking tape with newspaper works fine). get the calibers as clean as possible. Brake cleaner and a scrub brush works well. Then get whatever color paint you want, but make sure its high temp

Some may think this won't look as good, but I used a small detail brush to paint mine myself. I used high temp engine spray paint, sprayed some into the cap of the can. (obviously as scott said make sure they're clean as possible) No hassle of removing parts, taping parts off, no worries of overspray, no runs or brush lines etc. I had to do about 3 coats for the right brightness. That was a year ago and they still look new!

As long as the spray doesnt dry to quickly. Spray paint is very thin, so that it can be sprayed. If you are going to use a bursh, buy some thicker stuff.

Well I bought a paint kit. It came with some spray to wash off the calipers, a paint brush and a can of non-spray paint. It doesn't look to be much of a job and only requires that I tape off a few things for accuracy.

I did some research on the web and found a product called G2 - http://www.g2usa.com/wheel.shtml - it resists heat over 900 degrees and comes in a do it yourself kit. I picked up a kit of red G2 paint on Ebay for about 25 bucks plus shipping. Comes with cleaner, a brush, enough paint to do 4 calipers and a bottle of activator. The only downside to this stuff is once you pour the activator into the paint, you have 4 to 6 hours to get your calipers painted or this stuff sets up like stone. I got almost six hours out of my kit before it started to harden in the can, but I was just finishing up my last wheel so it was no problem. I also stopped to eat dinner during the process so it would have taken less time had I not stopped. I applied two coats to each caliper, and the paint smooths right out leaving a really glossy finish. Once you finish you have to let the car set 24 hours for it to cure.

I decided to dress up my front calipers a bit more on my GT and bought some decals to go on
the calipers once they were painted. One thing to note is that the front calipers on the GT's and I guess the V6's also have a ridge right in the middle of their "face", I used a fine metal file to smooth this out before I opened the paint, and it left a nice, flat, smooth surface to put my decals on. No clearcoat needed.

So far my calipers have been painted for over a month and have had a few hundred miles put on them in the hot Texas sun and not so much as one bit of the paint has tried to come off. Brake dust won't stick to the calipers either, so they are easier to clean. Attached are some pictures of my calipers I took yesterday - still holding up great. I really think it looks great and was a cheap mod - definitely worth it.

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Oh, one thing I did forget to mention was that the kit comes with a brush that looked too stiff for me - so I used an artists brush with softer bristles, besides making the paint look smoother, it made it easier to paint in small areas and on edges.

Thanks for the pictures! That looks great! Mine are yellow so I'm thinking they'll stand out pretty well.

Thanks for all the help!

I only got to paint one caliper today! Kind of put off by it because it is a darker color than its advertised as. If I can get a hold of a digital camera I'll post a pic.

I used an abrasive sponge to clean the calipers first and that worked GREAT with the supplied cleaning spray. As I waited for the paint to dry I decided to clean the inside of the wheels. I also used the caliper cleaning spray for this and it worked wonders. Never in my 2 years of ownership have I cleaned the inner wheel! It looks fantastic now! I'm more appreciative of the clean wheels than my one painted caliper! haha

Overall I think it will look okay. It's not terribly dark, it took the one 3 coats (20 minutes between) and I used my time to use touch up paint on the car body. It's been a pretty good day for just me and my car!

Hmmm..how about re-painting the calipers. I just recently got my car (2nd stang, 2nd v6), and the calipers are painted but the paint is kind of peeling off already. Whoever painted them didnt do a very good job. Anyone got any tips for re-painting them?

Man . . . I got my tires rotated, balanced, etc and they chipped some paint off my caliper! It hadn't even been on there for 2 days yet!
