Hey

I have a question about the cruise control.
I own a '97 V6 without cruise-control, now i want to take
the cruise-control from a wrecked mustang and place it in my car.
Is that possible?

Rien, I am sure it is possible, but it has it's own wiring, buttons etc, I think it also has it's own computer..... A lot of work, but I can highly recommend it if you do high mileage (like me, 70 miles a day).
I advise buying a haynes manual for the car (the same one I have for my '00), that tells you how to change all the components, and therfore let's you know how to fit one!

Good luck

James

I live in California- where there are cops EVERYWHERE waiting to get you for speeding... and I've maxed out the car at over 120mph.
If I were to go to Germany, i don't think I would ever come back (besides being in a coffin, maybe)

But germany is not so great as people think
(dangerous people there) <--- because of the way they drive
they sometimes think it's a race track there...
Sometimes even i do, when i get there because in holland we DO have a speed limit and laserguns every 10 miles, so when i arrive in germany i floor the pedal..
i did race against an Mercedes CDI sportcoupé once (from 50 to topspeed)
And i won but still they're crazy on the highway there
There is one guy there named "turbo rolf" he works for daimler chrysler and he never got under 160 miles an hour on his way to work till he pushed a lady and her 4 year old daughter of the road, which he never saw untill police picked him up at work, he never saw the accident because of the speed he was driving,
That happened this year, so they're now working on a speed limit in germany

I heard about the impending speed limit.....let's face it, the only reason there isn't one yet is because of Auto Companies "Donations" to political parties!

I assume the lady and child didn't do too well?

I would still love to take a Maclaren F1 down the Autobahn at 241mph!

At least on some routes, to some times, we can put the pedal to the metal ... but with all these dutch guys flooding our highways there is not enough space to go as fast as we could just kidding !

Problem is, every time I get to 115 mph I will have to slow down because of Trucks, massive traffic ... but on sunday morning at 0200 a.m. you can ride to the max.

I will be in Florida again in a week ... 75 mph maximum *eeek*

Cruiser update!

I contacted the local Mustang garage,
and they told me it was too difficult to place the cruise-controll compartment
myself...
So now i'm looking for an aftermarket cruise controll...

Oh BTW last christmas i went to poland again and when i came back my avirage speed on the Deutche autobahn was about 100 miles an hour (for 400 miles) because i felt like i was the only one there.... i did race against an Pontiac grand prix there, a man from texas was on holliday there so we raced together for about 100 miles, after that we stopped on a parking and talked a bit and he liked it to race together with an european guy with an Amerian car...

There are aftermarked cruise control units available. When I bought my Toyota 4x4 pickup truck it did not have cruise control from the factory, but the dealer had it added on at a speedometer shop.

On mine, the buttons for the cruise control are incorporated into a separate stalk that was added on to the steering column trim. This may be the way to go for a self-install, as the Mustang normally has the buttons integrated into the steering wheel.

I believe that the cruise control unit incorporates a speed sensor added on to the driveshaft (a clamp-on magnet and a switch that counts the pulses), a "motor" that is mounted in the engine compartment with a cable that attaches to the throttle control, the control button stalk, and a wiring harness.

You might be able to find something like this:

http://www.rostra.com/cruise-control.htm

Hope this helps.

Hello again,

@ tpelle: thanks for the link, there are even 3 distributors here in Holland, so i will contact them this week to know a bit more about there products..

@ jgsmuzzy: The duetche autobahn was great, mostly i hit the pedal the last 10 miles before the dutch border because my girlfriend is a bit affraid when driving with high speed past other traffic but last week i drove all the way from Poland to Holland almost at top speed because it was so quiet on the autobahn..
and she was not even affraid driving so fast

Rien...
