Cheap, Easy Ways to Add Power.
Cheap, Easy Ways to Add Power.
Suggestions on best cheap and easy ways to add power to a 2004 V-6.
I am thinking K&N Fresh Air Intake, Steeda Underdrive Pulley Kit to start.
What I am reading suggests roughly a 16 HP bump for those two....does that sound right? Any other suggestions? (I know...dual exhuast
).
Thanks.

Unfortunately the V6 is not very easy or cheap to add power to. The head set up, gear ratio, open diff, engine tune, etc is just not there for power. You already have headers as opposed to manifolds, the intake was all new for 1999 and helped add some power, but the 3.8/3.9 is just not a great powerhouse.
A CAI may net you 2-5 horses, the pulleys will help a little to, but even with dual exhaust you will probably not notice much of a difference.
To really notice, at the minimum you need either a reflashed computer, chip, or programmer, in addition to CAI, Cat back exhaust, underdrive pulleys, and new rear gears for starters. If you are comfortable with it NO2 is a inexpensive and relatively easy power adder, just don't over do it.
Beyond that you get into big bucks. Forced induction, stroked engine, ported and polished heads/manifold, oversized valves, fuel system management are about your only options.
As for me I kept my 04 V6 roush relatively stock and saved my mod money and bought and 05 GT.

I say a good set of gears will be the most noticible thing you can put on your car. My 97GT, though is not a V6 is also kinda underpowered (215HP stock) i did the K&N cold air kit and Borla exhaust but saw minimal gains. After putting in some 3.73 gears it woke the car right up.
I noticed a significant improvement by installing a dual Magnoflow Exhaust #16605, a MAC CAI and a SCT Tune. These items will not make your V6 a race car but there will be a significant improvement. The Brenspeed site is suggesting the CAI will improved RWHP by 15+. Having had this system on my car now for the past 2 months I have noticed the increased power.

TheMagnaflow system is also suggesting an improved power rating but even so with these parts on the proof would be in a dyno test.
