Combination of the door and all that extra plastic.

I don't see how the GT hatch could be 3500 pounds. Yours numbers look right, as the SN-95's weighed more. Someone with a GT Hatch needs to run out and check the tag in their door for us.

EDIT:

Edmunds had even a diffrent number. I chose GT Hatch, and that's what it came up with.

I'd expect a patrol car to weigh more for various reasons. Cage, Equipment, etc.

The weight posted on the door sticker is the maximum gross vehicle weight. This includes passengers, fuel, luggage, etc.

That is the maximum gross vehicle weight rating. That is how much weight your vehicle is rated for, including passengers and cargo. Say your car weighs 3200lb. Then add approx 100 lbs for a full tank of fuel. =3300lbs. Then add 4 passengers @ 200 lbs each. Now you're at 4100 lbs. Put 98 lbs of luggage in the trunk, and you've reached the MGVWR of 4198 lbs. The car itself, however does NOT weigh 4198 lb.

Oh. Thanks for clearing me up on that. I knew that the car itself did not weight that much but I just wasnt sure what the number was refering to and that was the only number that was on the door. There were two other numbers but they were faded and I could not see them clearly. Thanks alot.

The 2 other #s are probably the Gross axle weight ratings- The max. load for the front and rear axles.
