Turn signal and hazard lights not working
Turn signal and hazard lights not working
This is my first post on this site but here it goes I picked up a 92 coupe 4cyl car to do a swap from my 89 gt i been noticing a few things from messing around with it and found out the turn signals don't work hazards they don't either they don't do nothing I checked the fuses they were fine headlights work as do brake lights I have a couple ideas of what it could be but don't know where to start if anyone has had this problem before I would appreciate the feedback
Ow, my eyes... wall o'text... Hang on...
Ok, now that I can read it....
Hm. Looks to me, via looking at the wiring diagrams here:
http://sbftech.com/index.php/topic,3993.0.html
The hazard switch seems to be wired *before*, and into, the multifunction directional switch (turn signal stalk assembly)... http://351winsor.com/joel/EEC-IV/90_Wire_Diag_3.JPG
See how both the directional and hazard flashers have power coming in, then get wired into the hazard switch? (left side of the diagram.) If the switch is bad, both works get shut down. The left pole lets power continue when the switch is off, the other two route the power so through the flasher and then to the lights, so if the switch is stuck in the middle, none of the three poles are connected, and nothing works.
But if it's good, then the wiring continues to the multifunction/directional switch (turn signal assembly), which can be seen here:
http://351winsor.com/joel/EEC-IV/90_Wire_Diag_5.JPG
So if it's bad in the same way, things aren't touching, then the same thing happens: neither works. So it's one of the two, but which one...
and I'd be leaning to the hazard switch myself. Seems like it's more likely to have the problem.
Of course, there are two flashers and it's not totally impossible they aren't working... but both at the same time is... well, odd.
And of course, a fundamental wiring issue such as a fuse or short or something more esoteric and needle in a haystack could be happening... but I dunno how to help ya with that.
You might take out the hazard switch and test it for continuity type checks. Seems easiest. The multiswitch might be easy at it's connector end...
And according to this: http://351winsor.com/joel/EEC-IV/90_Comp_Loc_2.JPG
The hazard flasher is with the fuses under the driver side dashboard, wheras the turn signal flasher is behind the center stack somewhere. I've read if you open the glove box door and get it outta the way, it's right there, but I don't know/remember.
Hope that helps ya out!
