Trip meter no longer working

ok my trip meter has recently stopped working but i'm pretty sure the odometer is fine what could be causing this issue, if there are any other details you need i'll be glad to help you help me.

check both ends of the cable to make sure you did not spin one of them.

edit: i apologise, i am thinking of the speedometer cable. however i would think that the odometer would work in the same fashion. maybe someone will pop in that has fixed it before.

One of the plastic gears on the back of the speedo could have been stripped. Also, there is a metal shaft that secures the gears for the trip. It is pressed in. It might have backed out. Just need to take it out and look.
