Right now I have a 3.8 TBI and eventually I want to swap it out for a 5.0 but first I need an 8.8 and tranny that can take some abuse. I'm wanting a trans with overdrive but from wat I hear AOD won't last long with abuse. Is there anything I can do to build an AOD up or is there a better OD transmission for what I want?

 

I have a stock AOD tranny from my 85 5.0 and they can handle nicely. I suggest you find what you want and just get it rebuilt at your local shop.

 

I just got an AOD from an 8 gt for $150 and a friend of mine is gonna build it up for me. Do u know what ill need to swap from a C5 to an AOD? Like will my speedo gear work, will I need a new cross member, and will my kick down bar work? I know I need a shifter with overdrive.

As far as I know, when switching out a tranny, your going to need everything recalibrated (rpms).. Speedo should be fine.

 

The recalibrating I can let a shop do if I have to. I just wanna make sure wen I get it all together I can get it to a shop an make sure I don't start and not have everything I need.
