Top Speed
Bone stock? Car and Driver of september '89 reported a bone stock Hatchback GT as topping out at 141 mph. I've gotten my convertible above one fourty, but since that's where the speedometer kicks out, I cant be sure exactly how fast I was going. The steering tends to get a little hairy at 130+, don't even try it unless you're sure the road is completely clear. Save it for the strip.
I was referring to dragstrips... a lot of them are pretty lax when it comes to enforcing rollcages and such. But, ironically, there's an old private airport about 15 minutes from where I live. About 10 years ago a natural gas pipeline was put through the area and the gas company purchased the airport in case of the need for future expansion. Now, the airport's abandoned and the hangar has been bulldozed, but the strip is still fine. Of course, I've never taken advantage of such an excellent opportunity... B)
Oh yeah... I assumed that went w/o saying (with a 14 sec. quarter mile) but now that you bring that up, that's a good point. You won't be seeing 140+ unless you've got a good sized length of road (or tarmac) to light up.
I thought it was referring to me calling it a strip, as opposed to a track or something.

yeah the top speed is supposedly like 140. but you wont see me trying to get that. the car just doesnt feel too stable above 100 which is the highest i have had my 92. and i probably wont do it again
I have an 88 saleen. All stock saleen options and saleen 3.55's and I hit 145mph with relative ease. just lots of clear highway. Probably thanks to aerodynamics and the revised racecraft suspension the car felt nice and stable. only done this once though and that was a couple years ago with 30k on the odo. now with about 70k on it, it feels like the suspension needs to be redone.
