Tilt column

Is the 87 the only yr that has the tilt steering column?

Among the Fox Mustangs 79-93, a tilt steering wheel was available until it got driver's side airbags in the early 90's.

It was an option for sure during all model years before the driver's airbags. Many cars produced simply were not optioned with them. Don't forget to look in other Fox platform cars besides Mustangs. The steering columns are standard interchangeable parts used on many models. The 1980-88 Thunderbirds, Cougars and Mark VII are abundant as are the older model Panther Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Town Car. Other Fox platform cars include the Continental 82-86, LTD/Marquis 83-86, Fairmont/Zephyr 78-83, Granada/Cougar 81-82. If you find one with a column shifter you can just remove the entire shift shaft and lever and it is literally the same as the ones used for floor mounted shifters.

Also, if you find that you need to use a single turn signal/wiper/dimmer switch instead of the dual separate turn and wiper switch of the first Fox design, then the single combined switch will still fit the column.

I guess I know so much about this since I put a 97 Mustang dash in my 84 Tbird and switched it to an automatic floor shifter with interlock from a Mark VII, removed the column shifter and used 89-93 Thunderbird/Cougar squared off column trim and converted the turn signal/wiper switch to the later model single stalk unit swapped in from an 86 Taurus.
