T-5 Rebuild or Replace?
Hi Guys/Gals, I have been a member of this site since the '05 caught my eye last year, and I have been impressed with the wealth of info available. I'm sure everybody here like me would love to buy one but some of us just aren't able to do so.
I lucked upon an 88 LX 5.0 5-Speed about a month ago that needs some work. I have almost the whole interior gutted and I am trying to find tan interior parts which has proven to be quite a difficult endeavor.
The main reason I am posting here is to find out what do you think I should do with my trans which has bad 2-3 syncros. My 2 options are a rebuild or find a donor replacement.
What year transmission I can install in my car w/ no modification. I am guessing up to a 95 will work but I had to post here first b4 searching the junkyards.
What is your opinion, rebuild or a used replacement? Right now I don't want to spend over $1K for a new unit. I want to get the car back on the road so I can use it. Right now it is sitting in my garage is pieces.
Thx for your input!!!!

It depends on your budget but getting a used one may put you with a transmission that is not much better than what you have now. If you don't want to spend the money on a new one then I would rebuild it...Contact Hanlon Motorsports...they are a wealth of info regarding 5 speeds.
Also the '94-'95 Transmission is longer which means you have to have the matching bellhousing and it will locate the shifter 1" back.

Put a C4 transmission in her :drive: This site has it for $875 plus torque converter and shipping: http://www.transmissioncenter.net/C4_C6.htm
HERE is a pdf format of a T5 rebuild manual.
