Ive got to rebuild our transmission this winter and I want to know what all is involved.

1. What kind of parts do I need to get?
2. What kind of tools do I need to have?
3. What do I need to do to brake the new parts in?

Any other info will be greatly appriciated.

Websites with info would be helpful also.

Best I can tell you is the bottom Cluster is a real challenge to replace. It really takes two people .

One to lower the cluster using a couple of cradle holding clothes hangers. Basicly you have to lower the cluster into just the right place in order for the second person to lightly pound the shaft threw the center of the cluster. The challenge is to keep the needle bearings in place. If even one needle bearing falls out of place its time to start over.

Clue: wheel bearing grease is EXCELLENT for holding needle bearing in place.

As for tools I am certain you'll need a C Clamp remover.

Inspect the bottom cluster before removing it.
Turn the tail shaft and view the teeth to see if any are missing.
With any luck maybe none of the teeth are damaged.

Not sure how a T5 is configured but from my own experiance The Reverse teeth and one forward gear maybe on a seperate smaller cluster in the bottom and off to one side away from the bigger cluster.

Some times a couple of screw drivers and a hammer can be used to remove c clamps. Becareful tho this can make the c clamp airborn and lost forever. Suggestion cover with shop rag before pounding.

Also if you ever buy a standard tranny from a salvage yard?
What ever you do? make them take off the top plate so you can inspect the teeth of every gear while turning the tail shaft.
Some times you can make one good tranny from two bad ones.

Good luck and keep us posted
