suspension suggestions

im thinking of givin the suspension on the pony a refresh. what would you guys recommend for a complete suspension rebuild. i want it to drive like a new car. also in the rear suspension im getting a noise from time to time. its mostly when i hit a bump. at first i thought it was the hatch but now i think its in the suspension. could it be the sound of the control arms making noise due to well warn bushings? the steering shakes a bit but ive noticed at times it barely shakes. could that be from warn tie rod ends? ive thought of it being from the tires..could have a bad tire up front or something....any comments are welcome.

Well . . .you could get OEM replacement parts, or go in the direction of Maximum Motorsports, Steeda, Griggs, etc. I would go with the latter.

Does the car currently have any suspension/chassis mods? If not, first item I suggest is a set of full length sub-frame connectors welded in place. Have you ever replaced the shocks/struts?

Once the bushings get bad they do get really annoying, so when you do it replace the stock type ones with polyurethane ones.

My stock Ford struts lasted me around 112,000 miles (15 years) until last winter when they froze up so hard they wouldn't rebound at all. I replaced them with stock Monroe replacements because I didn't have the money for nice ones and so far they deliver a fair ride for the front end. Last fall I replaced the monroe shocks that were already in the back with KYB AGX and I really wished I woulda saved up for better shocks. They have 8 different stiffness settings and none of them seem to be different from each other.

As of the last couple of weeks the ride quality in my fox has also been getting worse and I suspect the various bushings are going bad and the spring isolaters are probably rotted away. I'm gonna save up bigtime and get the Maximum Motorsports plain non-adjustable lower control arms with maybe the FRPP or a cheaper brand upper control arms. Several paychecks later I'm gonna get a full set of Bilstein shocks/struts and hopefully they will perform better than what I have now. After that I'd like mild (1") lowering springs with polyurethane isolaters.

Also, I already have urethane swaybar endlinks and I'm thinking about getting one of those complete urethane kits they make for fox bodies. Before all this I need money, of course.

Finally, like Evil Capri said, get subframe connnectors! Welded in! And I would do that first. I bought cheap standard length ones with the seat brace at Carlisle but they're still better than nothing. I also recommend buying full length ones from one of the more well known companies.
Hope that helps
