Suspension

I'm replacing most of the suspension under my 89 hatch. Part of that I will be changing the struts and I was wondering which ones to go with. I daily drive this car along with taking it to the drag strip and I like to use it for drifting a little. I know those are completely different suspension set ups but I was wondering what would be the best struts to use for an in between. I've looked into some Lakewood 50/50 for rear and 30/70 or 60/40 front. I've also looked into Monroe gas-a-just along with some Monroe adjustable. Just wondering if anyone has used any of these or know of some other good shocks that would work for my application.

a good street set up isn't going to make the best drag set up and vise versa. you will have to accept the trade offs. Subframe connectors are the single most important chassis modification you can make. next you take a look at some quality rear lower control arms, subframe conectors ( I use maximum motorsports braces & rear lower control arms, ford police rear uppers, frpp front arms, '01 bullitt springs)and other stuff from http://www.maximummotorsports.com/store/ and http://www.steeda.com/ . For struts I use KYB AJX but I also like QA1 http://www.qa1.net/drag-street/index.php , strange adjustables / suspension parts http://www.strangeengineering.net/.

this should get you going.

Steeda carries some great shocks/struts for the fox bodies. We have a lot of history with the Fox body and racing.

Send me an email and I can help provide pricing and support for what you are seeking. If you provide your budget then we can provide the necessary suspension components that you will need, that will fall within the budget.

I look forward to hearing from you.

tim @ steeda.com

Best Regards,

TJ

I did some research on the kyb agx shocks, I couldn't find a good review on them but also didn't find a review for a mustang. Everyone was pointing toward konis. They were saying the kybs wore quickly. Just winding how do yours perform? Would you say its worth the money and do they have a decent adjustability? Should I use them all the way around or just the front?

I don't daily drive my stang but I have had the ajx on my car for about 4yrs or so now w/o a problem and they are paired with 2001 mustang bullitt springs. I had to soften them they where pretty stiff on the hard setting but they do adjust and work but I will agree there are probally better dampers out there. koni is a well known name but in the future I'm going to look at tokico D spec http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...hock-Strut-Kit

or the strange 10 way adj. http://www.summitracing.com/search/P...ustang-Shocks/

I had the AGX on my '00 with Eibach Pro-kit. I hated them. They were ok for the first 10k miles, but after that they rode like sh*t. Replaced them with MM Bilstein Sports and it was much better.

For your uses I'd recommend adjustable coilovers. Save up and do it once! Don't make the same mistake I made in piecing together components and wishing I put that $700 I spent towards coilovers. For drifting, you generally want firm front/soft rear. For drag ravings it's the complete opposite. Generally speaking of course. So go with a fully adjustable setup.

yeah I agree and like I stated there are better options, the kyb's are entry level but imo I don't rate them has total crap. I don't think you need to go coil over but that is my opinion, you can "piece" together a good setup. you can also give steeda, QA1, strange etc., a call for some help if you need more guidance.
