Starting problems with my '86 GT

My '86 GT is having problems starting. If it does not start after a couple cranks (normally it does) the engine will flood. The engine then will be hard to crank, acts like there is excessive fuel at least one cylinder, will crank slow then fast. It will then take forever to start, when it finally starts a bunch of black smoke comes out of the exhaust, another sign of flooding. Also when you rev up the engine it will backfire out of the right pipe, yet another sign of getting too much fuel. Now can this be a bad injector or something else???? This is a totally stock 5.0.
Thank you!

It's very hard to diagnose over the net but have you checked your fuel pressure? Your regulator could be bad.....

Sounds like you have a leaking injector. Pull the plugs on that side and they will tell you which one has the flooding problem. Then you have two choices. 1. You can just replace that injector or 2. You can have that one tested at a diesel injector facility.
