sscobra: No I didn't take anything you said to heart. I agreed with the point you were making and I was just adding to it a bit, so to speak.

I do have pics...this is a thread of mine from a while back, these are still the most recent pics I have.

man that grey 86 w/ the t-tops just looks amazing. sometimes simple is good. i think the 4 eyes with the square fog lights is a great looking front end. and those wheels are sweet

wildstang: Nice looking car. The white with the white wheels looks great. What are your future mods that you are planning if any?

Thanks sscobra.
Future mods will be a 2.3 turbo, from either an '85 1/2-'86 SVO or an '87-'88 t-bird turbocoupe. Most likely it'll be from a turbocoupe motor 'cuz from my recent investigations the turbocoupe will be much easier and cheaper to find in nice shape with low miles.
New front seats
Keyless entry and remote start (does that count as a mod? lol) living in NY these are almost a must have lol
Also i'd like to find a rear wheel drum to disc brake conversion but i'm not sure if they make 'em for the 4 lug wheels.

Once x-mas is over i'll be able to start saving again, can't wait...

What do you guys think about the Spider X-9 hood for the 87-93 stang? I think it looks really agressive (although its a photoshop on the site). Maybe i should have waiting, although i do like my Boss Cobra R (2000 Style hood) i have now. Ignore the ugly body kit that ruined the car in the picture!!

Go with the 87-88 Turbo Coupe donor....that will at least save you from every SVO owner out there who might want to string you up for parting out an SVO . Aside from that Turbo Coupes are plentiful and cheap and the computer is a better one than the SVO(faster with same parameters), The intercooler is larger as well. Another benefit to the Turbo Coupe is it is factory equipped with a 4 lug 8.8 disc brake rear end with either 3.55(5 speed) or 3.73(automatic) gears and a traction lock. The front brakes are also the same size as the GT Mustang and a bolt on for your car. You can find a good Turbo Coupe donor car if you look long enough for under $500. Your hardest part of the swap is the wiring...I suggest buying the shop manual wiring schematics for your car and the Turbo coupe from www.helm.com and tracing the wires and doing it that way and properly...it's time consuming but worth it in the end.

Thanks for the info svopaul! I totally agree about not parting an svo, i'd never do that to such a nice car. I mispoke earlier, what I should've said was to 'find an svo that had been wrecked/totalled but still had a good engine'. But with your advice (and many others) i'm gunna stick to the turbocoupe. I wasn't aware I could use so much from the t-bird, I planned on looking for just the motor, now i'll have to look for the complete car! A month or so ago I saw an '88 turbocoupe on ebay, mint and very clean 1 owner, and the mileage was only in the 30,000's if i remember correctly, sold for $2000 even!

Just a few questions if I may.... My car is 5 spd., so would I have to have a 5spd. turbocoupe in order to use it's motor and it's rear disc brake assembly? Or will an automatic work just as well. And does the entire axle assemblies have to be switched in order to do a disc brake conversion? Also, I just had a brand new a/c compresor installed on my car a few months ago, will this compressor bolt on the t-bird? I'd hate to waste an expensive new compressor lol.

Thanks!

You can use an automatic Turbo Coupe but would be better off finding a 5 speed version as the transmission is geared differently and I believe the clutch will be larger than yours. You will wan to swap the entire axle assembly, especially if you still have the 7.5 rear end originally installed in your car, the TC has an 8.8. The 2.3 Turbo in the Turbo Coupe uses a serpentine belt setup so your A/C compressor will swap over.

I love your cars look, but I would not bother with a junk 2.3 Turbo 4 cylinder, Put a 351W in it or a 5.0 HO motor. They do make 4 lug disc brakes, get em off a Lincoln

Thanks to everyone once again for your great info and nice comments! The people on this site are SO helpfull, much appreciated!!

Ok, back to topic (kind of).... fordracing200, I'd love to have a 5.0 but it has always seemed too costly for me. Such as gas mileage and paying my mechanic to do the 5.0 conversion, which i'm sure involves a lot more work than droppin in a turbo motor (but maybe not, i'm new at this 'switching motors' stuff lol). And from what i've heard and read, the '87-'88 turbocoupes pushed a bit over 200hp while the stock 5.0's from the mid 80's were at most 200hp. So I think that's not bad at all, and i'm not into racing at a track or anything so I have no need to go all out (as much as i'd like to hehe).
