replacing stock rear end gears....suggestions?

I am going to take my car to my dads friends machine shop to have them switch the rear end gears..I havent bought the gears yet because I wasnt sure what set to go with....some people suggest 4:10's but I think I won't like them because I do drive the car on a regular basis, even though I take it to the dragway several times a year....I was thinking 3:73's, but didn't know if anyone suggested anything different...

Personally I would go with 3.73's max...rule of thumb I use is for a 5 speed car...3.55 to 3.73 for street and occasional strip use....3.73 to 4.10 for an auto car.

I love my 3.73s, I was worried about highway RPMs but I can drive 80mph for long stretches and not worry about anything... its just loud. 1st gear doesn't long either

If you check the sticker on the door you will find one of these codes

Rear Axle Codes
BG — 3.31 — non-limited slip, base vehicle with manual or automatic
CD — 3.55 — limited slip, GT with manual transmission
CG — 3.31 — limited slip, GT with automatic transmission

Hope this helps.....

In my eariler post I meant "1st gear doesn't last long". The guys in the S197 forum should have your answer about the '06
