Question about Fox Bodies
#1
Actually here are two questions ( I hope they aren't dumb).
1. Why do they call it a "Fox Body"??
2. Why is there no pony emblem on it??
I figured this would be the place to ask the question.

They call it a "Fox Body" because that is the name of the chasis it is on. There was a pony on the dash of the 25th aniversary and up models and the '91 and up models had the "Pony" wheels with the emblem, but other than that I have no clue why there is no pony emblem on it. My guess being that they wanted it to look new and different than the older stangs, but no reason you couldn't put one on.

The reason why was at the time Ford wanted to use only "corporate" badging recognition only on all the cars viehicles produced during that time. 1987 - 1992 are the only years ever Ford did not use the tri-bar or pony emblem (minus wheels 91+/25th anniversary dash emblem) on any mustang body.

Fox was fords internal code name for the Fairmont/Zephyr program. Back in the day, Audi used to make a car called the Fox (in europe) and the original (ford) fox development team originally had goals similar to that of the Audi fox team: RWD, unibody, front struts, coil springs, disc brakes, precise steering, good handling, ride quality, interior room, good ride quality, etc. The team was designing the Fairmont/Zephyr to surpass the fox... the "fox" Fairmont/Zephyr came out in 78, the "fox" mustang came out in 79. Other 'foxes' include Granadas(81-82), Monarchs(81-82), LTD's(83-86), Marquises(83-86), T-birds(80-88), Cougars(80-88).
