I changed the oil on my 91 LX yesterday and at first look I think, hey this is going to be easy the oil drain plug is right there, then I only get about a quart of oil out of it (I knew it was low but this was rediculous) and all I can think is that the last owner really neglected it. After I put a few quarts in and the dipstick went way up I knew something was wrong. The next day I realized that there were 2 drain plugs :bang: :bang: :bang: . So now I have to do it all over again after work today because I have about 8 qts of oil in the car!
I thought some of you could get a good laugh out of my stupidity on this one...in my defense though it is the first time I have owned a 5.0.

Thanks for the laugh. I too have never owned a 5.0 or even looked under it's hood, so I did not know that.

I am Polish and an Engineer. So you can imagine how much common sense I have.

Get rid of that excess oil quick and do not drive it!

You do not want to blow a head gasket.......(I did that on one of my old Sierra's! :bang: )

I ran it breifly before I found out about the other plug and then shut it down. It has just been sitting for about a day and I am going to get the oil out of it right after work. Hopefully it will be ok when I run it again after that.

Geez, a while ago I changed the oil in my push mower, and I guess I added a little TOO much oil. After about 5 minutes of it running it stopped. Oil was coming out of the muffler, and when I took the spark plug out, the chamber was almost completely filled with oil, lol, but it's still kicking with no problems so...

I Have a 92 GT and I've havn't seen 2 drain plugs yet. I only see one underneath the oil pan facing toward the rear at an angle. The only other one should be on the transmission...I think

Yea, there is actually two believe it or not. One faces out towards the front bumper while the second is about 18" further under the car and faces directly down. I re-drained the whole thing today and started over.

Yup, the front sump houses the oil pump and the rear sump contains the oil supply

You guys think thats bad, check put alot of aftermarket oil pans, the rear sump drain plug is on the rear wall of the pan, right between the pan and the bell housing

yeah thouse double sump oil pans will get you just remember 2 much oil is allmost worse than not enough oil with too much you could build up some pressure and blow a hole in the block (seen it happen with 4 qt over) or you could get oil to fill the combustion chamber like mentioned before and then bend valves (valve job anyone)

just 2 cent
