I have used nothing but Mobil one synthetic! Only problem with synthetic(not that its a huge issue) but IF you do have leaks this will clean out all the sludge and allow them to show up that might not have been seen before.

yea, depending on the car's mileage, synthetic may cause more problems than it cures. Like stated above, it will remove Dino Oil(your regular stuff) deposists and may cause leaks. Personally with a high mileage engine(mine has 132K on it) i would suggest the continuation with the Dino oil. We've been using 20w50 since the 80's and it runs great, it all depends on your climate. Ours is warm and humid but fluctuates to friggin cold randomly.

Synthetic has many advantages, such as longer duration between oil changes, better protection for your engine, some have lower friction ratios, some offer less oil consumption.

Im not one to suggest personal advice, but take what you know about your engine and what the facts tell you and make your best judgement.

I agree with Chris regarding changing to synthetic on a high mileage engine.

My first Capri I changed over to synthetic oil (before I knew any better), and the car started leaking oil like the devil.

On my last Capri the engine had nothing but synthetic since ~10,000 miles, and I used Mobil-1 15w50.

As long as you change your oil (and filter) on a regular basis you'll be fine.
