need opinions on 2 set ups
hey guys the time is coming soon for me to start modding my 88 5 liter hatch. now my main concern is reliability , i want the car to start up with minimum hassle and breakdowns. my goal is 500 horsepower and 500 pounds of torque, to the crank NOT the wheel.
i have 2 set ups in mind and since i can trust you guys to give me the right advice and all i wouldnt mind having some help. and keep in mind the motor will be rebuilt to a 306 and im planning on using the stock block, tranny and rear end.
set up 1. 331 stroker (ive heard from numerous sources that the 347 is a oil drinker,,please let me know if thats right because i would obsviously go with the 347 for more cubes) afr 185 heads, ported lower cobra intake , 1.7 roller rockers and a custom cam.
set up 2. vortech blower 8 to 10 psi. ported lower cobra intake , afr 185 heads, mild cam.
any help, input or suggestions to these setups will be greatly appreciated!

I'm a little confused, is 'set up 2' a blower on your stock 306 block or on the stoker motor? I don't think a 347 stroker will make 500hp unless you supercharge it but I may be wrong.
I also heard numerous times that a 331 will out-live a 347, somewhere in a mustang magazine they mentioned the 331 had better rod ratios or something...??
For good reliabilty I'd think the 331 w/ a blower with a good tune should be alright. The 306 with a blower will probably be a little more street worthy. Your stock transmission won't last though if you poweshift at all.
