I'm looking to upgrade the rear axle assembly in my 85 GT. I would like to find a used 8.8. I really don't care about whats in it. I just need the housing. I live in Northwest Indiana and would be willing to pick it up. Any one selling?

I wish! I've called 5 junk yards. the closest I've come was a wrecked 90 GT with a 7.5. No 8.8's to be found.

Thats what I thought. You could have put a gun to my head and I would have sworn that all GT's from 86 on came with the 8.8. I pulled the tag off the rear end myself and we looked it up .... 7.5 with a 3:45 gear set.

That has got to be a swap after the wreck. GTs came with 2.73, 3.08s or 3.27s (AOD)

Maybe a swap from a 4-cyl?

You may be on to something, but I'm thinking it was a swap before the wreck. The car had been crsuhed already and no one new who the owner had been. I would have agreed with you on the ratios you listed however, we pulled up the data on the 7.5 rear for 1990 and they list the three you said plus the 3.45. Its to bad, got pretty excited when I heard they had a rear out of a 90 GT. Thought I had my part.

Thats wierd. It had to be a swap. Thats beat that you cant find a rear for your car. I would probally find 200 8.8's within 30 miles from me in 20 minutes here in Jersey. Good Look on your search.

Yah, a 9 would be great for you, you would never have to swap it again. my fathers 86 GT had a 8.8 in it  i thought the 85s had them too.
