The spoiler and the rears of the outside rails come off with screws, but what is the deal with the rest? Are they held on with some kind of rivit? I need to remove it so I can re-paint the deck and then re-install this stuff. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

The rails/supports/ribs whatever you wish to call them are usually riveted to the trunk lid. However, Ford did use screws on a few ribs and rivets on remaining ribs, all on the SAME car. I've seen a MCA show Limited Edition with both rivets and screws.
I say all this assuming you ARE asking about a fox body and not a 68 luggage rack.
My 87 vert trunk lid leaked around the third brake light. ACK! The rivets had long been drilled out and replaced with rusty nut/stove bolt set up. 2x ACK!
I recently swapped lids with a non-luggage rack. No more leak. But it looks horrible without the "wing/spoiler/3rd brake light". I plan on fixing that with a Limited Edition style low profile spoiler.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I am talking about a 90 LX Conv.

I see the aluminum top, plastic bottom(?) rivits. Some look easy to get to from the bottom, others near impossible. I guess the next step is to see where to get the new ones, so I can re-assemble it all after the paint.

I agree with it looking like something is missing w/o it. I have a temp lid off a 85 gt on there now. It is plain and now looks odd.

Have you seen these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...TRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

I'm thinking tis could be a nice alternative. What do you think?

Thanks,

Yes, I see those. Kinda like these >>>>>Clicky Link<<<<<<< search item LRS-44210E

I dont know what size rivets, but >>>>Another Clicky<<<<< might have the size. Or you could use a stainless steel nut/bolt combo with rubber O rings.
