An introduction, some pictures, a long history

Hey there ladies and gents!

Well the Fox Chassis area seems quite scarce so I'll rip in with a new thread here...but first...who am I?

Well my name is Chris and I live in Metairie, LA. If you're familiar with the area you know that's about 2 shakes of a stick from New Orleans(literally the suburbs of N.O). I've owned my 1984 GT since I was 18 and it belonged to my mother for 18 years before me. The car started her life as a special order for a pregnant woman. That's right...momma bought a sports car while pregnant with me?!?! She's a crazy lady for sure but she felt confident about her decision. Long story short I grew up with this car. It's got stories through the wazoo and I'm proud to have it in my life today even though it's condition is that of a 25 year old vehicle. In 2003 I began working on restoring her and was making progress including having the rusty roof replaced:

there's a little documentary there. Just follow the links to the pictures.

Well as we all know...the summer of 2005 was not a pretty year for the New Orleans area and unfortunately 10mpg evacuating on a 10 gallon tank was not going to cut it for evacuation. I had to leave her at home and hope for the best. She got flooded. I changed the fluids upon my return. She ran for a day and then the engine seized up...i'm assuming from junk that floated into the engine through the exhaust and God knows what leaks...so she sits in my backyard with an almost restored interior and no heart to run.

THE GOOD NEWS! I'm getting married this Summer and will be moving into a house with a garage...which means 2 things for me: 1. I can take her apart without fear of someone walking off with the parts... 2. I should have the resources to afford an engine rebuild and to restore her to original condition....including those pesky expensive TRX tires...

Now now...I wouldn't have you read my life story without any pictures would I ?

What does the future hold for her? Definitely an engine rebuild with non-cosmetic changes for sure. I plan to show her once i complete the restoration and keep her on a trailer in most cases but I will want to rebuild and make her driveable.

Thanks guys, I'm really looking forward to working on her again and getting things done.

I will be asking a few questions coming up soon as I head back into the interior and wrap up some loose ends.

I figured I'd make a list of what's been done in the interior in case anyone has questions:

- Replaced Carpet with Black
- Replacement shift boot
- Painted all interior panels with the LRS spray can stuff
- Took off the crumbling dash pad(waiting to buy a new one)
- Put a black cover over the arm pad
- replaced the coin tray with a black one
- Replaced hatch carpet. Black also.
- Bought black sill plate replacements

I'm testing the two-tone interior look at the moment to offset all the canyon red. I figured Ford thought black was a good enough color to paint the moldings and plaster the hood with so I rigged the interior like that as well.

I'll go scrounge up a recent picture....

This is to show the difference between painted and faded:

An overall feel let me know what you think about the two-tone look

Another to show off the quality of the painting i did and the new cointray/boot

oh noes you found me!

Yea i don't plan on buying a new engine. I'd rather just rebuild the current one with some internals reworked.

Although there may be car parts from time to time i'll need the space for. I almost bought a nice 79-84 rear bumper in gramercy...bidding got out of control so I didn't pursue it though.

Nice that you found me though!

(You should change your avatar picture....it now contains 2 mustangs you don't own anymore )

That means I have to take a decent one of the truck that I'm not barefoot in...
