ignition off battery light on

when i turn my key off the battery light stays lit up. and also have 12 to the fuel pump relay. i am little stumped. my first though was ignition switch. but not everything has power.

this cars has had alot of rewiring. i have 3g alternator, electric fan, full msd, carb setup.

the reason i know that the fuel pump relay has power is because when removing the ecu, i took the signal wire from the ecu on the relay and put it to ground. this allowed me to use the factory relay, to kick on when the ignition is on.

i tried wiggling the key. i wiggled all the connections that i have ever made. the rest of the stuff inside the car dont act like the key is one. only the battery light and fuel pump. so i need to find the common place those two things share. i am gonna study my schematics and see if i can figure it out. but if anyone has any idea of what this is please help

thanx

Nothing... I feel like I get no love here. Please help. I have some updates.

I unplugged the battery and key off. And checked continuity on all the wires on the ignition switch. The yellow and red/light green wires have continuity. The red wire goes to the tfi and coil. I have done wiring in this area but I still can't pin point the problem.

I also found a relay in front of the passenger side strut tower with bad wires on it. I don't know what the relay is for. I noticed it, because when I plugged the battery back on it was making a loud click noise. See pic.

Then also in the schematic I will post shows the red/light green wire tying into the voltage regulator and battery light. Is this located on the alternator? And could this be the problem? I did some google researching and I found someone that had a similar problem and it ended up being a short in the alternator.

Help help please. My stang is injured and its killing me.

Oh. And is the voltage regulator on the alternator?

you could have an alt issue. Under normal operation the regulator provides a ground path to teh "I" circuit when the alt is off, when the alt receives a signal to excite or voltage is below 10.5V. As the alt excites and output bumps up the ground pathway is removed from the excite circuit and the light goes off.

Check to see if the "I" circuit has constant 12V power ( key off ). If so check for a shorted "A" and "I" terminal wiring. If you do not find any and chances are you may not then a bench test of the alt is in order. also there is a fusibile link between the alt and starter soleniod that should be checked also make sure all the major grounds are hooked up ( I have a test that can be done to verify proper body ground if needed).

I'll check back later.

awsome skunk. i peeled the wiring conduit a couple feet back from the voltage regulator and found 2 wires shorted together.

thanx alot man!

Yes it Can. I know basic electrical. But tracking down shorts suck!
Thanx again.
