I picked up a car...

Its an 89 coupe LX, with a four cylinder, and a 5 speed. Its in pretty good shape for a 17 year old car.

You'd have to swap in an engine from a thunderbird turbocoupe, or a merkur. It'd probably blow up other wise. Check out stangnet.com and allfordmustangs.com, they both have pretty good 2.3L forums with loads of info.

I was gonna swap a turbo 2.3 in my 86 from my mechanic's T-bird but then I found my 87.

If you could do a swap that would be plenty neat. Talk to SVOPaul regarding that.

You know... you could do a cool SSP Mustang clone with a turbo 4. That would be really neat! Plus I believe if I'm not mistaken that the 4 swap is easier than a V8

Are you kidding me? Swapping a 5.0 V8 into a 4 banger notch is the oldest trick in the books! You can even re-use the 4 banger trans and rear end if you want.

Turbo swap is easier....you can keep all that stuff, and not have to rip the 2.3 wiring harness out and change it over to the correct year 5.0 harness. Just repin and go for the most part
