I need info on the 3.8
I need info on the 3.8
How's it goin guys?
I just bought my first mustang and its a jewel for sure, its an 84 v6 auto convertable, i live in maine and alot of them have rust and rot but the stang that I bought has no rust on it anywhere and the brakelines still have the factory rubber coating on them. It has 35k on the body but the motor was changed out and the only way i know this is because there is an electric fuel pump on the rear of the car and this 3.8 that is in it now has a mechanical fuel pump that is not hooked up. I had the car running and drove it around my yard. It runs rough because it has bad gas in it from sitting and the plugs and wires are bad so i need to replace those. Ive wanted a mustang since I was 10 years old and i finally have one so im excited, my father and I are gonna make it as original as possible and was wondering if anyone out there could give me any info on this car and engine. Thnks everyone

Your '84 is a GLX 'vert. '84 was the 2nd year the fox mustang was offered has a convertible.
It would be tough to figure out where your 3.8 came out of. Ford used the 3.8 in other models. In '84 the 3.8 would have come with fuel injection hence the tank mounted fuel pump. The original motor must have been replaced by an older carb motor. I can tell you the carb motors where rated at 112hp at the crank so figure about 70-80hp ish to rear wheels. they made some slight changes to the injected motors and rated them @ 120hp at the crank. It is a 3797cc/232cu inch motor with a 3.810 inch bore and 3.390 inch stroke.
The 3.8 that could be in your car could be found in the Ford Granada, F-series, T-bird, LTD and mustang/capri. The 3.8 was offered in the mustang in late '82( for the '83) thru '86 then only the 2.3 & 5.0. where offered for the fox '87 thru '93.

YEah, my motor is tbi. I gotta pull it out of the car anyway to do new gaskets seals and possibly flywheel, and when its out im gonna get the block numbers off it and figure out what it came out of.
