How to Identify Heads

Have a B303 cam and misc other bolt ons. Was wondering if my heads were swapped out, they don't look like anything special so I kno their not E streets, etc

How can you identify the Gt40 P heads with the heads already in place on the engine? Any special markings on the side of the heads? Thanks in advance

what year is your car? Do the numbers on the engine match the year of your car? The heads should have some casting numbers on the exhaust port side. See if you can get the numbers off of them

gt40ps have 4 bars on the front of the head by where the alternator bolts to.also those heads will have longer plugs than e7s,but similar to e6s.here is the identifying marks:http://www.foxbodyperformance.com/fo...he-Differences

In the tech section I have photos of gt40 and "P" heads and how to identify them. E7 heads will have a casting "E7TE" like this...

It's been a long, long time since I got into 302 heads, but don't the GT40P heads require a different header due to exh port height? They also have a nearly straight spark plug hole as compared to other 302 heads.

"P" heads have an angled plug. Does it require a different header..no, does a set of "P" headers make life easier..yes. It can be worked around though.

It's a 91 but I kno the previous owner had dropped a new 302 in it. The plugs are slanted so they may be the "p" heads. When I get off work I'll go take a look, I should of searched this topic before posting tho..

Appreciate the input fellas

Didn't need to check the link, but thanks... As I read your response, I thought... Yeah, it's not the deck height on those, it's just the plugs being in the way. The casting is essentially the same insofar as dimensions.

I've never done much with E7 heads. One of my 6 brothers used to really go nuts with those things and I've installed probably every version in other cars(friends stuff) w/ him, so it came to me that the height isn't different. I used ported E7's for 3 of my own builds. Then I just switched to aluminum for personal stuff. Y302 "Turboswirl"was my 1st(thought I liked J's first). Once I found Twisted Wedge, that's it... AFR is great too, of course.

Yeah I like the wedge heads, AFRs are decent. I'll be going with a set of ported Brodix on my 347 build.

I considered Brodix, partly because the name is just cool... Problem was, for the 3.5 grand I budgeted for heads, Brodix simply could achieve my goals(at that time). So I went with a set of ported TFS TW R's. I was lucky too, as mine were hand ported by Brian Tooley. Hell YES that's bragging! They became his Stage II CNC'd R head.

Brodix track heads can flow, even the 5.0. "R" with added work can put out also. nothing against the other heads but you can get a set of brodix to flow real nice.

I'm sure you'll be happy. The power increase for me was nothing short of amazing, like around 50 more than with my TurboSwirl(GT40)... Adding the juice it was insanely different, but in a great way. Power under the curve was higher, all the way.

I know, I know... In 2001/2 though, things were very different, and Brodix was fairly pricey.

My heads flowed (@.700) 346/274... That was a BIG deal for street use heads at the time(though they were essentially race spec then). You'll be hardpressed to get there w/ Brodix Track 1's and you'd spend at least close to as much. The only similar head(designed to bolt directly on) I think is truly comparable... AFR.
