look underneath for rust holes, fluid leaks, or anything that doesn't look right. Start it up and listen to the motor for any odd sounds, see if the heat works, and don't buy it until you drive it! You absolutely must take any used car for a test drive! Get on a straight road and let go of the wheel, see if the car pulls left or right. Do you have to hold the steering wheel chicken-eyed to keep the car down the road? Check the tires of course, brakes are a little harder to check but aren't expensive to replace if you do them yourself.
1500 seems a good price as the car does look solid. But Valentino said everything right, make sure you check those things thoroughly.
I had the underbody of mine checked also, my uncle owned a shop with a lift.

From the pics, the driver side door looks to have possibly been replaced. I would look for places where the car had been repaired in that area. At 1500 you arent going to get a mint condition car by any means, but I would check to see if there were any blatent mistakes in the repair that might indicate shoddy workmanship.
Other than that check out the engine, how it idles and runs. Make sure you drive it long enough to get the car at operating temp for a few minutes. When going on a test drive, drive the car in the same manner you plan on driving everday. If you drive the car hard everyday, drive it hard on the test drive. I am not saying get carried away and totaly trash the car, but dont drive it like you are taking grandma to the grocery store Check the engine, the handling, the braking and suspension.
Last but not least, if you have the opportunity get the car checked out by a reputable shop before handing over the cash. You can notice things on a lift that you would never notice with the car sitting on the groud. What little a good mechanic would charge you to give it a once over would be well worth it to know what kind of conditoin the car is in.
