Hey guys,

I just got a 91 GT. I'm trying to determine if my fuel gauge is off, or if it just has a small tank.

What is the fuel tank capacity on these cars? I couldn't find the information in my Haynes manual, and the owner's manual is long gone.

Thanks,

Thanks!

I've gone about 135 miles on 3/4 of a tank according to my gauge. The other day I filled it up when it hit 1/8 of a tank, and it only took 9 gallons. I would hate to think I'm going to have to pull over and gas up every 140 - 150 miles!

I know it needs a good tune-up. Hopefully that will stretch a tank a little farther.

I have a 88 gt 5.0 and my fuel gauge does the same thing.... the fuel capacity is not that big and I can never tell how much gas I have in my car because the gauge jumps around all the time. I think its just the car because everyone that I know with a 5.0 has the same problem.

Now that I've had it for a few tankfulls, I remembered that the foxes have an odd shaped gas tank. The first half goes down real quick, but the second half takes a while to burn. I had a friend with an 89 that did the same thing from the day he drove it off the lot new.

My speedo gear is also the wrong one for my rear-end. I've found that it is measuring about 25% low. I just gained 4 miles to the gallon!

I'll be getting the gear changed soon. I hate not being able to tell exactly how fast I'm going.

I can go 200 miles on a tank of gas in my '82 5.0 when I drive real conservatively. When I first started driving and I was giving it plenty of gas to make sure not to stall I was able to go around 140-150 miles on a tank.

Well I got 200 miles on a tank the other day. My car has the wrong speedo gear in it, so I figured it up to be actually about 250 miles on that tank.

Over half of it was pure highway, then the remainder was a 60/40 split of highway city driving. ~22 miles to the gallon by my calculations. I'm pretty happy with that.

When I get my speedo issues straightened out, I'll check if for sure, then I'll give her a tune-up. It still has the original plug wires in it from 1991. Prolly the original plugs too.

What the heck, I dont have that many mods on my 91 GT, just pullies exhaust and a filter but I can get 275miles + out of a tank when I drive right! If I remember right I got 328 miles out of one tank one time. Maybe I have a good tune but still only 200 miles on a tank and with gas being 2.00+ that sucks man, I feel for ya!
