Fox 1/4 window trim

Does anyone know of anybody reproducing 1/4 window trim (mouldings) for late fox bodied 87-93 mustangs ? Thanks.

I believe Steeda had them but they look cheesy in my opinion. The molding is part of the glass and the only way I have found to make them look right is to repair and repaint them....the stick on patch moldings look like just that...stick on patches.

I just read at stangnet yesterday someone said Steeda stopped making them. I bought a pair from Blue Oval Industries on ebay and haven't installed them yet because they need to be trimmed to fit best but a guy at stangnet posted a picture of the trim on his and it actually doesn't look bad, they say you have to use a good glue like silcone sealant or something(?)
Of course now I can't find the freaking thread there...

We repainted a 1989 Saleen 5 years ago that had them on it and yes they are glued...they stick out since they are "caps" and I didn't think they looked good. We took them off and masked off the window and using a filler primer repaired the moldings and repainted them satin black...they looked new and now 5 years later they still look new. It's more work but a nicer look in the end.

Thanks SV. Did'nt know the molding was part of the glass. That is what I thought I'd have to do with them, because I heard the exact same thing. I emailed a couple of the main Resto places, and one owner emailed me back. He said he heard some company out there was just starting to make them, but he did'nt know who.

Not long ago (2 weeks) there was a brand new set, not repos, on ebay. They were going for something like $499.00 per side. Geez they were nice. There was 3 or 4 bids on them and about 6 days left. Some guy in Florida was selling them. The listing said he had the tooling to make them. Too deep for my pockets.

Well, that listing was incorrect....there is only one person that gets the tooling from Ford & it's suppliers and he is in North Carolina. I see a lot of this go on though. Ford has one person they allow to get the molds for Mustangs and another for Thunderbirds, etc. This helps get the heat off them when people are fuming mad because the parts are discontinued...it allows them to shove it off on someone else saying they can reproduce it. Back in 1999 I think I got a copy of the letter from Ford listing the companies they chose to give access to the molds for obsolete parts.

There are no "repros" so to speak of the glass that I have seen yet.

Watch out for those caps that Blue Oval sells...they are nearly impossible to get installed smooth....every set I have seen look wavy or rippled.

Thanks once again SV for that important info. You are like a walking dictionary on 5.0's. Now I know what road to take.

$300 a pair.

I have never tried them, though.

Could something like tis be used to fill in all of the pits in the trim?

Why cant the rubber trim be replaced on the windows? I know that it is vulcanized rubber that the window is molded into, but there has to be someway to get it off of the window, and then remold new rubber around it right?

Yep. Many folks have used a plastic putty then sanded smooth, sprayed a couple of light coats buildable primer, smoother more, then finish coats with color.

There's over a thousand posts on the Corral about this subject in the General Tech section. A Search brings them up for hours of reading for insomniacs.

if those pieces from Mustangs Unlimited had the "MUSTANG" text on them I'd probably buy them, but having that text on there is important to me so I'll see how this molding I got will work. If it comes out bad I'll just refinish the things like Paul said.

slightly off topic:
I don't think I'll ever be buying from Blue Oval Industries again, the subframes I bought from them at Carlisle were ok for the price but the strut tower brace from them was total garbage, it had globs and little bubbles of steel all over the welds, and they just chromed right over it... Then I got these quarter window moldings, and when I saw I had to shave the things down so they would actually sit against the existing trim rather than just the edges I knew I made a mistake in buying them, but I'll see how they work out for me.

I used filler primer and Duplicolor ford semi gloss black (to match my other prainted trim) and they turned out great. Sure it took me about 5 hours but it was worth it. It made the car look like a brand new car.
