AOD rebuilding?
I'm thinking my OD band is giving up. The 3 - 4 shift S-L-I-P-SSS and RPMs race if I stay on the pedal. Changed the fluid and filter last weekend (added a drain plug), but still have a 3 - 4 slip, not as bad but still there. If I keep it in "D" (stay in 3rd) and manual shift to OD, with no pressure on the throttle, then she'll drive alright. But if I put ANY rapid (tap) pressure on pedal....S-L-I-P-PPPPP. It just isn't grabbing. The TV cable hasn't been fiddled with, nor has the throttle body/idle.
I've read some postings about replacing OD bands, replacing servos, blah blah. Can they (AODs)be refreshed by the average weekend "Joe" with reasonable "smarts". Or is rebuilding AODs all intimidating black science and ill speak ?

I :worship: :worship: any experiences/expertise you have to share on this <whisper> technical issue <whisper>.

Replacing the gears might not be hard but if you have to do more in depth work then its a pain from what I've heard. Probably better off having someone else do it.
EDIT: Just to let you know I found an exploded view of an AOD tranny in my Service Manual. Ill gets some pics of it and send them to you via PM.

I have to confess Rebuilding an Automatic tranny is NOT something I have done yet. Tho I have rebuilt standards a couple of times and several motors.
However, I am looking forward to doing it some day
Auto Zones Online store has an AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION REBUILD kit for about 160 bucks.
I once put in a replacement Torque converter on my pony and it alone ran me about 80 bucks From Oreilleys.
On the tech side.
When putting the torque converter back in you should lightly push it into place while slowly spinning it into place.
You will know with a thud when it is lined up correctly.
Also you will need C Clamp removers.
On the plus side you can get them from AutoZone on a loaner basis. THe down side being they may be already loaned out the day you need them.
But they are not that much.
above pricing based on a 2.3

As a follow-up: I had been doing all this research, reading, and  pondering the trans rebuild, toasted OD bands, bad servos and what-nots. :bang: DOH!
I had over-looked the obvious !
The TV cable had slipped out of the bushing (actually the nylon bushing was MIA) :bang: .
Ordered up the bronze bushing and hairpin clip fix. A whopping $5.30 fix.
TECH LINKY<<<<<
Adjusted the TV cable PROPERLY, and it's shifting nice again. Not neck snapping
, but firm. Also good reading<<<<<<
The cable was actually set on the low side, causing a "limp wristed" shift, and kicking OD in way too early. Backing the cable down a bit, increases valve body pressure. Maybe an 1/8" total.

It must be a conspiracy. I had to put the cover on my car in August because my AOD wont shift out of second gear. I'm just waiting for the funds to have someone rebuilt the darn thing.

How much does a rubuild cost? Wouldn't it be better to spend $900-$1000 and buy a new C4 or something of that nature?

Buying a new trans can be expensive, what it really comes down to it what do you want out of your car. I spent over $3000.00 for a Lentech Street Terminator trans for my car and consider it money well spent. I wanted to keep the overdrive so I went with a built AOD. If the overdrive isn't that important to you then a C4 is a little cheaper.
