I'm looking ford a GOOD aod tranny. Just got a mustang and need a tranny I'm in oak ridge, TN looking for one kinda close to home if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated

 

Checked craigslist? I liv in indiana and I bought an AOD for 175.

 

Just a FYI- if you find one, be sure to check the throttle valve cable before pulling it... I assume its the same tranny the Mark VII used, and they are notorious for the cheep clip breaking, the throttle valve cable falls off the throttle body, and it fries the transmission in a few minutes due to slippage from low pressure. I had been forewarned about this issue on the marks, and sure enough, both the marks I had did it- both started slipping, luckily I stopped and checked things, both times was able to jury-rig something to hold the cable in till I got home to fix it... Just something to watch for.
oh, and man is that throttle adjustment sensitive- moving just a couple notches on the little toothed cam block will change it from soft to harsh, especially on od engagement.

If you see one still in a car at the boneyard, watch for missing throttle valve clip, and don't bother pulling tranny if its missing- odds are its fried... that 10 cent clip has put more than a couple fords into the boneyard
