5speed Troubles
Alright, first of all i'm not quite a mechanic so I'm not too sure about some of this stuff. Now for the problem, When I try to do a quick shift into second the gears seem to grind really quick, and it's not that i don't have the clutch in all the way or anything. It has happened when i shift into fourth too, but not frequently. Never happened going into third, and I never have any problems in first of clutch slippage or anything.
I'm thinking it might be the syncro but i'm mostly just guessing. If anybody has any ideas please let me know, and the cost to repair whatever you think is wrong. O ya, if i stop between first and second quickly (1/2 second) and then pull it down into second it doesn't grind.

Ours will do that when it cold. Ive got to check the fluid leval in it tomarrow and see if I need to add some. Like you I think we may have a bad syncro. If thats the case Im going to rebuild the tranny this winter.
I'm not a transmission expert, but it sounds like either the syncros or the shift rods, either way sounds like a rebuild is in your future, at least it opens up the possibility of an upgrade.

I would be inclined to blame the stick shift linkage might be a little out of adjustment. Those metal rods may change if a previous owner was into some really mean power shifting.
Besides its easier because you can generally adjust linkage in the car with out pulling the tranny.
The syncronizers are generally pretty tuff
and are made of brass if I remember right?.
On my 1965 I replaced the factory shifter with an after market called Hurst. Not sure if they are still around now tho
