1990 5.0 LX headlights not coming on...

So, a couple of days ago while cleaning the snow off the car I tapped the passenger side headlight to get the ice off. That headlight goes out. I pop the hood, wiggle the connection at the bulb and it comes back on. But then I start noticing the blue 'bright light' symbol in the center of the dash when the low beams are on. So I put the high beams on and the blue symbol gets brighter. Odd right there.

So tonight I'm coming home on a short 5 minute trip. Lights come on as normal when I start the car. About halfway home both headlights go out, also the little blue dash symbol goes out. I'm pretty sure that symbol is only supposed to be on with the brights anyway.

Weird stuff. Stopping by the dealer tomorrow because I won't be able to drive at night until this problem is fixed. I'd hate to have to get the '06 out in the snow, since I still have the summer tires on it.

Arrrggghhhhh!!!!! Anyone have an idea what's going on, never had this problem before on this car. Thanks.

Common problems is the switch inside, but mainly on the duel fog/switches. Take out the switch and look at the plug, they become warped and burned and lose propper connection. There is a retro fit for this but on the LX, you will most likely need to replace the switch and plug if it is burnt.. Same thing on the housing behind the headlight the plastic gets very warped.. Had to replace these a few times also in the past..

Thanks Dave. It must be the dash switches, because the housings behind the headlights are still in really good shape.

But I will check it all out and post the findings.

OK, so the dealer just called and says that all they could find is that BOTH headlight bulbs are blown and that's all that needs to be done - two new bulbs.

WTF, I could have changed the bulbs myself but how often do BOTH die at the same time. That is why I never considered checking the bulbs. I had my '89 Mustang from new to 2007 and this '90 from 2007 to now. Never had both go out at the same time. Amazing coincidence or a short somewhere?

Will post again if they tell me something different.
