That car has a Virginia tag on it....I know VA inspection laws and unless he is paying someone on the side to get passed and/or that car has a catalytic converter on it, it is technically not a "daily driver" since it cannot be legal according to VA laws. Don't get me wrong...that is a VERY nice coupe...but I have a very hard time believing it is a "daily driver".

There is always a lot of people claiming they have daily drivers.....and many of them are not. Hot Rod magazine is about to have an event to basically put up or shut up people who make claims like that....it is in this months issue where they are going to have an event for the fastest street car....5 or 6 tracks in 5 or 6 states...NO trailers, NO support vehicles....only the car and what you can carry in it or tow behind it. You have to hit the track, make a pass, give your best timeslip to the official and drive to the next track.

THAT in my opinion is going to be a great event and will weed out the people who really don't have a "driver" that claim to

Fun Ford True Street is a joke anymore because there are 8 second cars in True Street...those are NOT street cars...they just do enough to pass the rules but you don't see 8 second cars driven daily(rain, sun, snow, sleet, etc)

I agree the HRM thing will be great, but I say with almost 100% cerntainty that these 1100 hp street driven cars wont show up at all because they know they cant do it.

Yes it is. It is rediculaous that in a true street class, you have to have an extremely modded car to compete. They need to change the rules and get more restrictive on what is allowed in.

most cars cant make it through the cruise without the driver fearing it will overheat...

-that is a gorgeous notch though

It really depends on your definition of streetable. Most of those 1100 hp couldnt make the type of journey Paul is talking about, they are meant to be track cars. I garauntee if you check out any of these people that are runing 1000+ hp "street cars" they all have a back up to get the back and forth to work and the store. You say your 1100 hp car is a street car, then drive it from california to new york, and then I will believe. it.

Like I said...I'll believe it when I see it. I challenge ANY one of these guys to participate in the upcoming Hot Rod Drag Week.....check it out in this months Hot Rod Magazine. One week, different tracks in different states...NO tow or support vehicle, NO trailers...ONLY what you can fit in the car. It takes race gas to make 1100HP...and you can't find that on every street corner.

If a car can compete in THAT event within their rules then I buy that it is a street car....otherwise it is not....period

ok, i think u r right, but the fuel thing is what keeps those people local with their high HP street cars. like if its streetable but it needs race fuel, they can only get it from a certain spot so it keeps them local....

That's one of my points.....a street car definition may mean something different to everyone but in my viewpoint it is a car you can drive anywhere....which means pump gas. Sure I could put race gas in a car...turn out 900HP but realistically can I drive it 6 hours away making those numbers on that same tune?....No, therefore it is not a street car in that trim. Detune it to run on pump gas then possibly but then you aren't making as much power.

People like to brag about 1100HP street cars....I have yet to see one that falls into a real world definition of "street car"...just because you can drive it around town locally doesn't mean squat

That's why I really like what Hot Rod is doing with their challenge...should be interesting to see who makes it on that event and what numbers they make.

I really like how they are over on the hotrod forums saying how the 1000+ hp supras are gonna dominate. I see one major flaw in thier plan, 1000+ hp doesnt hook on street tires. True they could run some cheater slicks of some other dot approved tire, but they would be screwed if it rains, not to mention I darn sure wouldnt want to drive across five states on a set of et streets, they are scary enough just cruising around town.

one problem is HRM is a bad magazine, they seem to cater to GM too.
