Wiring your Classic?
Has anyone here ever attempted re-wiring their car with a Painless kit?
My 69 doesn't have a pre-made kit, so I would have to use the 18 circuit generic one. I have heard great things about them, but I am a little worried about it.
I guess I would have to update to an "chevy single wire alternator, and do something to accomodate the 4 headlights. Other than that it should be pretty straight forward right?
Anyone?....
I also plan to run all the wire hidden through the fenders, and place the solonoid like I saw on here a while back. It was a 65 or 66 stang that really looked clean.
One more thing. My gauges hardly work. Can someone give me a

personally i'm a plug and play kind guy so i will probably avoid the painless kits until they come out with one that is more ready to go for the 69. i'd rather just plug stuff in than have to route and wrap and figure out all the schematics and stuff. as far as the JME dashes for the 69 i would absolutely love to have one but for 1100.00 bucks i think i'll have to pass. the 67-68 dashes only sell for around 7-800 is there really an extra 3 or 400 dollars worth of plastic for the bezel? besides that i don't think they are even available yet. i know it says they are on the website but it has said that for the last year at least.
I am with you on the plug and play thing. My friend wired his MACH 1 with original harnesses, but for a 69, it cost him a arm and a leg.
I will contact JME and see what teh scoop is on those dashes. That is a lot of $$$$$ though.

you can get repro harnesses for fairly cheap, except for the underdash harness all of the other harnesses are repro'd. there is a guy on ebay that texasmach or texasbob or something that sells restored underdash harnesses for about 300 bucks or so. the headlight harness is about 250 or so and i think the taillight harness is like 185 or something and then add whatever the restored underdash harness is and you're out for under a grand, not bad really. if i remember right the painless harness is about 6-700 bucks and the savings just isn't worth the labor involved with painless harness to me
Well, the painless kit is about $285. But I would have to cut and splice all the ends to the lights etc. The kit does come with some generic electical fittings, but I am sure that I would need to get some specialty ones.

I actually contracted my brother a couple years ago to do a full rewire on my '67 using a universal kit from EZ-Wiring www.ezwiring.com . He needed work and I needed to avoid electrical work 
Anyway, he did not complain too much about the task and it allowed me to hook up all my add ons cleanly (fuel pump, power antenna, ignition, list goes on...) with plenty of room for upgrades like power windows/locks, security systems, etc.
If you are willing to take the time it's a much cleaner approach to wiring a car.

JME replied to me as well. They said the dashes are available but they are way backed up and it would take a while before I got one. I can wait till spring for that.

But they are deffinately being considered. Much cheaper.
You're not gonna get that much vehicle specific tech support in either case because they will tell you it's a universal kit. The instructions that are included in the EZWiring kit are enough to pull it off if you take your time and don't cut anything until it's in the car.
I used the 21 kit with the colored wiring. At the time the mini was not available. Though based on the photo comparison on the site I don't think the "mini" is that much smaller, BUT the fuses are laid out in a neater fashion. The complaint I have on the standard panel is the labelling is off a little so it's not clear sometimes which fuse you are looking at.
My quarter window just jumped the track this weekend (annual event) so I maybe digging into the powerwindow side of the harness this winter... should be fun :angry:

OK Im just about to start my 3rd mustang resto. The only thing is this is the first one that I need to redo the wiring
...see attached pic....the person I bought the car from tore the wires and cut them and basically F$%@ed the wiring all up. Its a 67 coupe. Any ideas as to where to get and how to install new wiring???
